I ain't no wall flower

Rainy day crafts with Elliott

I'm attempting this... a felt wallflower on a fabric covered canvas.

We shall see what it turns out like. I'm doing this blog as I make this.

This is what you will need...

  • Canvas
    • Mine is 12x16 but I don't think it really matters
  • Fabric
    • Make sure it can cover the canvas and be wrapped around and glued on the back
    • I got a 1/2 a yard of both fabrics shown
    • Iron it so there are no wrinkles
    • Get crazyyy with the patterns! :)
  • Felt
    • Any pretty color will do!
  • Hot glue gun
    • I'm sure you can use something else but this was the easiest thing for me
    • Extra glue sticks- fo sho!
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pen
  • Clothespins
  • A sweet companion
    • of course!

1. Center your canvas on the fabric (duh)

2. Glue and wrap the fabric on the back.(mine looks wrinkly) On the opposite side pull TIGHT and glue.

3. Glue corners down.. like a Christmas present :)

4. TADAAAA!!!

5. Let your sweet companion out for a potty break --no picture needed--

6. Get side tracked for 20 mins.

7. Start cutting the felt petals. I cut them into rectangles and then later on I will cut them into the petal shape. Placing one of the cut rectangles on top to cut around because the felt is firm and kinda sticks together.
I'm going to try the sizes from the tutorials I have read. Which includes 3 different sizes.. you may guess what they are... small, medium and large!
  • Small: Cut 18 lil petals for the inner part of the flower and the bud
    • 3"x 2 1/4"
  • Medium: 10 middle petals
    • 3 3/4"x 2 1/2"
  • Large: 10 outer petals
    • 4 1/2"x 3"
    • I made 7 petals out of one sheet of felt (from Hobby Lobby- 25 cents a sheet)

I used 3 sheets of felt total.

8. Start with the large petals. Put a dot of glue in the middle of the shorter side of the rectangle and pinch them. I carefully folded them in half making sure not to spread the glue too much. Hold that pinch until they are dry. **remember hot glue guns are hot and the glue is too.. so be careful**(guilty)

9.Put a dot of glue on either side of the previous glued crease and fold the felt down. Again.. hold until the glue sticks.

If you don't pinch them long enough this will happen:

If you have clothespins.. pinch them down to make sure the glue holds.

I completed gluing all the large pieces. (I feel like this part takes the longest because the glue has to dry) [[I have now aged 3 years]]

10. Laugh because your sweet companion jumped back up on the chair after his potty break and is still laying there sleeping.

11. Now is when I cut the rectangle into a petal shape.

(I placed the side I cut on the opposite side to make them symmetrical)

Complete cutting them into the petal on all the large pieces.

12. I placed them on the canvas centered and made sure I liked the layout of them. I put a ton of glue on the bottom to make sure they would stick

13. I then glued the medium size petals and cut them into shape and glued them BETWEEN the large petals. When I placed them I slightly folded the widest part of the petal upward.

14. I glued 10 of the small petals the same way and laid them between the medium petals that are already glued.

15. Take 4 of the petals that are left and put a dot of glue like previous petals but don't glue the second part.

16. Place them in the middle and glue your heart away! I wish I would have done 5 of those petals to cover more space but.. it is what it is. You can tweak it the way you want.

17. I cut the 4 pieces left into the petal form and made each one slightllly smaller than the other. I rolled them and glued. Each point of the petal on a different section of the bud. (sorry no picture)

18. I loaded that puppy with glue and shoved it in the center. Putting the bud in the middle made the last 2 petals point out more.

BAMM!!!

he likes it. wahooo!!!

I have supplies for another one.. I may change the type of flower and I will put that on here too :) Thanks for reading this and if you have questions definitely let me know! I tried to be as thorough as possible.

Sidenote: I only hurt myself a few times and took 1 million breaks in between because I have a horrible attention span today.

beepope out.
